Ashburton, NZ: 3942 from a mostly rural population of 28,600 sign a petition opposed to an expensive and ineffective wood heater replacement scheme. Petition rejected by Ministry for the Environment!
Under agreements with the Energy Efficiency Conservation Authority (EECA), the programme was required to put heat pumps in 60% of homes and other energy-efficient heating in 40%.
